What is Gelato?

Gelato is the
Italian word for Ice Cream

The original gelato was born in Palermo, Sicily over 200 years ago. With the use of milk and fresh ingredients, a substance was generated that was packed and stored in old-fashioned basements during the winter months, but not served until it was warm outside.

These delightful and refreshing treats became very popular and spread quickly. Over time, these recipes were passed down from generation to generation and perfected when the use of machinery became available. Like any other product, gelato is made by different families with their own personal touches to suit different tastes. These differences in ingredients cause gelato to vary in taste and texture from one region in Italy to another.

Pino Gelato is made by hand, whipped in a gelato machine and hand decorated to keep with the consistency of the old-world style. That is our difference and the one we take pride in.
